Technology is not only computers
Biotechnology
was invented even before the before the Common Era although not until the 20th
century the term biotechnology was commonly used. This term was used to
describe different traditional activities such as: cheese, wine and beer making, selective
breeding and even primitive plant cloning. Although these are biological and
complex reactions, they do not fall under our use of the term biotechnology.
According to the United States National Science Academy (USNSA), biotechnology
is described as being the controlled use of cell or cellular components for a
beneficial use. This new scientific branch uses more advanced techniques which
help us take even greater advantages of biological process. One example is genetic engineering. This
technique helps us transfer different desired genes from one organism to
another one without causing any noticeable damage. In essence, biotechnology is
an ever growing industry and it is very important to our lives and it will
still be in 100 years´ time.
In essence, biotechnology is a modern science branch
which is still developing and expanding all over the world. This science will gain even more importance
and it is regarded as being the science of the future. In addition, even more
people will be able to benefit from this, and global problems like famine could
come to an end. The importance of microorganisms is obvious, and if they are
investigated responsibly in a short period of time we are going to depend on
them for much more things. Vaccines, medicines, better food quality…are just three
of the thousands of advantages that this science has, and one day, our society will
enjoy every single one of them. Through research, hard work and responsibility
we will take advantage of a microscopic world which has an enormous importance
to us.
